This beautiful little school provides quality education to children in the rural community of Kispang-2. Despite its efforts, the school faces numerous challenges, including inadequate infrastructure and the absence of essential safety measures for its students.
The 2015 earthquakes devastated the school and surrounding area. With help from the Active Hearts Foundation, the school was rebuilt but lacked resources. In August 2021, Dan Keys, founder of Active Hearts, visited Kaitoke Primary School on Waiheke Island in New Zealand. Kaitoke School is of a comparable size with 44 students and 3 teachers, and they were inspired by Gogane’s story. The Kaitoke students raised $3,500 NZD for a new library by climbing Te Ahumata mountain and securing sponsors. The funds built a new library at Gogane Primary School. In September 2022, Dan celebrated the opening in Nepal with speeches, ribbon-cutting, and student dances. The Gogane community expressed sincere thanks to Kaitoke students.
This fundraising effort demonstrates that no matter how small or distant a community may be, they can make a significant difference.
Now the Gogane Primary School students need our help again!
Their immediate need currently is for a safe and secure playground area. The current outdoor area features a drop of approximately 4 meters (12 feet) on one side, rendering it too dangerous for the children to use. Active Hearts Foundation aims to construct a safety boundary wall and fence around the playground so that the children can once again play safely outside.
A boundary wall will protect the students during play and ensure a secure environment. This project is critical to the safety of the children, as it will prevent animals, unwanted visitors, and external hazards from entering the school grounds. We have encouraged local villagers and parents to contribute to this school project. With community participation the bulk of the unskilled labor will be donated.
The project will proceed through several stages, starting with earthwork and foundation preparation, followed by stone soling. Next, concrete work will be carried out in two phases, using P.C.C. 1:3:6 and P.C.C. 1:2:4 mixes. Stone masonry and iron work, including the installation of black iron square pipes and MS angles, will then be completed. The project will also include reinforcement, the installation of fencing and pipes using chain link mesh and HDP pipes, brick masonry, and finally, plastering to ensure a sturdy and secure boundary wall and fence around the playground.
Total Cost minus the unskilled labor donation from the community is: $18,000 NZD ($10,000 USD)
