About the project

Kaitoke School is located on beautiful Aotea Isl (Great Barrier Island) New Zealand. With only 44 students and 3 teachers it is a very special place of learning. Aotea Isl is currently in Covid Alert Level 3 lockdown meaning schools are closed and social distancing and masks mandated. These rules, although unusual for the students of the island, will not hold them back from being the incredible global citizens they are.

Kaitoke school students are excited to be holding a fundraising hill climb for their ‘sister’ school, Gogane Primary located in Nuwakot district, Nepal. The plan is for students to gather their family and challenge themselves to a walk up Te Ahumata/Whitecliffs, the beautiful maunga/mountain that overlooks Kaitoke school and is on the school logo. Once at the summit they can take a photo holding up a message for Gogane School.

The fundraiser is to be a rolling event. For three weeks from Nov 1st 2021 until the 21st November the kids have time to gather sponsors and do the walk when it suits their families while complying with current lockdown rules.

Gogane School has a role of about 50 students. The school was flattened by the 2015 earthquakes. Now rebuilt there is a shortage of resources and supplies.

All money raised will help Gogane School to purchase much needed learning resources and sports equipment.

If you would like to contribute to the efforts of these awesome students please click DONATE and follow the instructions.

The Active Hearts Foundation is very grateful and excited to have Kaitoke School joining our mission to create education opportunities for the children of Nepal!

Our vision for our sister schools is to create friendships, empower, share knowledge and connect the world via our children. They will be the leaders one day.

Namaste, nga mihi and thank you Kaitoke School students, teachers and parents!!
